Porsche 918 Spyder sells for a record price of $6 million at auction

A Porsche 918 Spyder has just been sold at auction for $6.05 million – a new record, surpassing the previous 918 sale record of $3.93 million.

The 918 Spyder was offered for sale by Mecum Auctions at their annual Kissimmee event. One of the plausible reasons for the record sale price could be low mileage. The car has just 845 miles on the clock, making it one of the lowest-mileage 918s around.

The spec on this 918 Spyder is also unique. It’s the only one finished in Paint-to-Sample Pure Orange. It has an exposed carbon fibre roof and carbon A- and B-pillars and is equipped with the Weissach package that adds an aero kit, which is again finished in exposed carbon.

The Porsche 918 Spyder is powered by a 4.6-liter V8 engine paired with two electric motors. It has a combined output of 875 hp and 944 lb-ft of torque, which enables the all-wheel-drive hypercar to accelerate from 0-62 mph in 2.6 seconds and has a top speed of 214 mph.

The 918 Spyder has always been the least expensive among the ‘Holy Trinity’. A decade later, that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. Collectors seem to be appreciating these hypercars more and more, which is clearly reflected in their value.
